Grids Within Grids Challenge

Field size: 40 yards by 40 yards

Number of players: full team with four players in each small square

Age range: 14-16

Description: Four girds within one large square with three players dribbling in each grid with one player defending.  The grids within the large grid gives players more time on the ball compared with when you’re playing in one big group.

The player who keeps the ball the longest, who doesn’t have his or her ball knocked out of the small grid/square, wins. Have the winners of each small group challenge face one another, so winners move on to the next grid and the losers stay.

Eventually, you want to put all the winners in one grid, and will have a sort of the cream of the crop group playing against one another.

If the defender can’t win the ball, adjust the game and have the players dribbling dribble with their weaker foot or just one foot.

Equipment needed: Cones and practice vests.
