Zinedine Zidane's breathtaking volley in the final minute of the first half fired Real Madrid to its ninth Champions Cup title on Wednesday after a 2-1 victory over stubborn but outclassed Bayer Leverkusen. Zidane's strike was the highlight of a final that had action throughout before 50,000 fans at Hampden Park.
Real Madrid's Zinedine Zidane played down his stunning strike that helped the Spaniards beat Bayer and joined fellow goalscorer Raul in praising the whole team.
"The important thing is that in the end we won," Zidane told Spanish national television. "We're the champions.
