History: Zinedine Yazid Zidane (born June 23, 1972, in Marseille, France), nicknamed Zizou, is a French football player for Real Madrid and the French national team. He describes himself as 'a non-practising Muslim' [1] and is of Algerian Kabyle ethnic origin. Through his status as a prominent Frenchman of Maghrebi descent, he promotes racial and religious tolerance, especially among the young and in his personal life.

Zidane is often considered to be amongst the best footballers in the world still playing, and perhaps one of the most talented players of all time. An elegant dribbler of the ball, his passing ability and perfect balance has make him one of the game's finest artists and the natural successor of France's Michel Platini.

On 25 April 2006 Zidane officially announced his decision to retire from both club and International football after the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Zidane Quotes

“We must not let ourselves get driven off course, no matter what happens we must stick to our natural game,”

"I am first of all from La Castellane and Marseille."

"I have a need to play intensely every day, to fight every match hard."

"I was lucky to come from a difficult area. It teaches you not just about football but also life. There were lots of kids from different races and poor families. People had to struggle to get through the day."

"I'm very inspired by him-it was my father who taught us that an immigrant must work twice as hard as anybody else, that he must never give up."

"We were a family who had come from nothing and now we had respect from French people of all sorts."
