I'm not really a big fan of a coach yelling at his players in general, but especially when their screaming at their players to shoot. Yes, forwards should shoot whenever possible, and whenever their in front of goal, whether they have no angle, no time, their backs are turned, they seeminly have no chance to score--that's exactly when they should shoot. To surprise the keeper and defenders. And, you never know when a ball will be deflected or the crowd in the box will shield the ball from the keeper.
But, I'm also a fan of when those around you are moving so fast, it's a good time to slow down. Perhaps not literally slow down, but think about what's going on around you. To score great goals you have to be composed in front of the box. And, you can score or create great goal scoring chances if you are composed and maybe make a quick touch, cut or flick that give you a bit more time. Or, with this grace and clear head, you're able to pick that spot that rips the back of the net. I guess what I'm getting at is at sometimes you have to take the bite out of the ball and go in the opposite direction.
But again, forwards need to shoot to score and no shot is a bad shot. A great rule of course is hit the ball back where it came from when receiving a cross or on a corner. Everyone is moving towards the ball and then you knock it back to a teammate or in the net. Although a smooth confidence can create and lead to great goals. Take this past weekend in La Liga and the EPL. Where we saw Peter Crouch, Paul Scholes, and Ronaldinho, uses a few deft touches to create and or score incredible goals for their clubs. Did you catch Ronaldinho's pass with his back?
All of the great forwards have this grace, the composure in front of the box. Players like Raul, Ruud, Etoo, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Henry, Larsen, and many others. More often than not their first touch is a goal, however, at times that turn their body, make a cut, or a subtle adjustment before the ball arrives so they can slot home a goal.
