Davids has played for some of the best teams in the world: Ajax, Milan, Juventus, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspurs. He talks about how, as a defensive midfielder, you can surprise the opponent when you attack but also need to balance the team with possession (Makelele) and then bring energy to the team (Gattuso).
Not only is the defensive midfielder the key to the defense, and so they strong in the tackle, but they also need to have good technical skills to control the ball in one or two touches and move the ball from the defense into the attack.
Davids suffers from glaucoma, and is why he wears sunglasses or protective eye wear during the games.
