Germany Rejects Nike's Offer - Stays with Adidas

Germany protects on of its own, Adidas, buy opting for less pay from Adidas rather than take a lucrative Nike offer, $68 million less than what Nike offered.

The deal was an offer to outfit the German national team but also extends to the Bundesliga, as I understand it.

The Bundesliga, made up of Germany's first and second-division teams, is expected to receive almost €50million (US$68 million) less in the Adidas deal than the one proposed by Nike.

Some Bundesliga officials have complained publicly of "protectionism" by the federation. Adidas has supplied the three-time World Cup champions for more than 50 years.

Under the new deal, Adidas agreed to pay €20 million (US$27 million) per year until 2014. During the final four years, that would jump to €25 million (US$34 million). It will also help finance between 500 and 1,000 soccer fields across the country for amateur players.
