Is it Romario, Ronaldo (the Brazilian) Luis Figo, Rivaldo, Messi, Iniesta, Ronaldinho, Xavi, Eto'o, or Luis Enrique? Is there someone I’m missing from days past?
To make the correct call you'd have to look at how many titles the player has won in their time at Barcelona. On the face of it this is an easy an answer, as Lionel Messi looks
like he'll go down as the greatest player to ever put on a Barcelona shirt, however, he has not won all the titles he should win for the club just yet. And Ronaldinho, who was the best player in the world when he wore the Barcelona jersey, it’s hard to look past him.
But what about two players who maybe done get as much attention at Messi and Ronaldinho. Two players who lay the ground work for stars to succeed. Should the honor go to a creative player who sets up the stars? Perhaps Iniesta or Xavi. Again, it’s a bit too early to make the call for these two players, their time at Barcelona is only half done. They both have a number of years left in them to win titles.
One player I think you can rule out, although he was incredible, is Luis Figo. I don’t think you can name him as the best player to put on a Barcelona jersey when he switch over to rivals Real Madrid.
Samuel Eto’o I think is also a fan favorite and might even be considered, but his time at Barcelona was cut short in many ways. Guardiola traded him to Inter Milan of course, where he’s finding more success. He could be scoring more goals in the Barca shirt.
Rivaldo is one Brazilian player who slipped under the radar in many ways. This is a player who scored a hat trick against Valencia to put Barcelona into the Champions League the following season. He scored the final goal of the hat trick, the game winner, in the dying minutes of the game via a bicycle kick. It must go down as one of the biggest goals in Barcelona history.
Then there’s the Brazilian Ronaldo, who only spent one season at Barcelona but scored an amazing 47 goals in all competitions. But his time at the club was so short you can’t call him the greatest player to wear the Barcelona jersey. And then he too went on to play for Real Madrid.
Who do you think deserves the honor of greatest player ever to wear the Barcelona shirt?
