Barcelona Versus Malaga: 6-0

Has a team ever not come back after the halftime break? Well, for Malaga, it would have been understandable if they decided not to return to the Camp Nou pitch in their most recent match against Barcelona.

They were down 4 nil at the break and Barcelona was on a tear, not wanting Real Madrid to get any closer in the title race. Not wanting to lose some of their momentum, as Manchester has now lost to Liverpool in their own EPL title race.

Rather, Barcelona was back to their usual form, never letting Malaga get a good sequence of touches on the ball. And what with Henry, Etoo and Messi barring down on defenders, who it just so happens don’t really even have to feint anymore. As defenders, as if in fright, always seem to dive in or make a misstep, enabling the Barca attacking force to laser the ball into the back of the net on a repeated basis.

But with Barcelona having 70% of the possession in this game, and racking up 6 goals, I wouldn’t have blamed Malaga if they would have called it quits at the half. I don’t think any one would have blamed them.

This year, I’m guessing Barcelona will set some kind of La Liga record for possession time, and most likely top that off with the La Liga title and perhaps the Champions League trophy too.

More from the AP:

Barcelona showed Real Madrid they will take some budging from the top of the table with an emphatic 6-0 home win over Malaga on Sunday to restore their six-point cushion over the champions.

A few hours earlier Real had defeated Almeria 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu to cut Barcelona's lead to three points, but Pep Guardiola's side responded by cutting poor Malaga to shreds.

Xavi, Lionel Messi, Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto'o were all on target in a sensational first 45 minutes and Malaga couldn't wait for the half-time whistle.
