How Many of You Would Like to Take an Ice Bath with Alex Morgan?
Have you ever taken an ice bath after a soccer game or training? It's not easy. It's very, very cold. And the first few seconds or minutes are the hardest. It's doesn't get easy until your legs start to go numb.
However, if you're sitting in the ice tub with soccer star Alex Morgan, it might just be a little bit easier. What do you say? Thumbs up?
Kandace Wilson tweeted this picture of Morgan and teammate Whitney Engen taking an ice bath after a pre-game training session. Who would replace Whitney and join the ice bath with Morgan? No disrespect to Whitney of course.
Right now Morgan has 214,383 followers on Twitter. So, I'm guessing at least that many would jump in the icy cold water with her.
I'm thinking Alex Morgan should do some kind of contest for charity. Bid on a chance to ice bath with Morgan after a game. I'm sure she could raise a fair amount of cash. Heck, she might just be able to save the entire Women's Professional Soccer league with a few ice bath auctions. Or, maybe something like, 'whoever can stay in the ice bath the longest gets to go out on a date with me, Alex Morgan.' I'm sure Stuart Holden would do it and a ton of other people who love Alex Morgan.
Plus, there is of course the actual benefits of an ice bath post training:
Cryotherapy ("cold therapy") constricts blood vessels and decreases metabolic activity, which reduces swelling and tissue breakdown.
Once the skin is no longer in contact with the cold source, the underlying tissues warm up, causing a return of faster blood flow, which helps return the byproducts of cellular breakdown to the lymph system for efficient recycling by the body.
"Ice baths don't only suppress inflammation, but help to flush harmful metabolic debris out of your muscles," says David Terry, M.D.
