4 v 4 v 4
Field size: 40 yards by 30 yards
Number of players: full team split up into groups of 12
Age range: 12-14
Description: Three teams with different colored bibs, red, yellow and green. One team of four starts on defense and tries to win the ball from the other two groups (eight players). If the defensive team wins the ball they automatically go on attack and the team that lost the ball becomes the new defensive team.
Later move to scoring points if the combined teams complete a certain number of passes. Work on transitioning from defense to attack and spreading out as a group when your team wins the ball.
The focus of this drill is to win the ball and keep possession, to move the ball away from pressure. Since their is a four man advantage to the attacking team there's plenty of open players who can spread the field and receive the ball. Teams with the ball can switch the ball away from pressure rather quickly with the four man advantage. Players should look to play a few short passes and then before the defense can close the space down, switch the ball away from pressure. A few quick short passes and then a long pass to break pressure.
Equipment needed: Cones and practice vests. |
